Human Relation Theory of Management

George Elton Mayo, born in 1880 in Adelaide, Australia received his M.A. degree in Logic & Philosophy from the University of Adelaide in 1899. He also studied physician courses in Scotland and Psychology at Adelaide University. He worked in different countries like West Africa, America, etc. In 1919, he was appointed as the Chairman of the Philosophy Department at the University of Queensland. He has also served the University of Pennsylvania.

In 1926, he became the Professor of Industrial Research at the Graduate School of Business Research, Harvard University. Mayo, with his colleagues, conducted some research work at the Hawthrone Plant of Western Electric Company and as a result, the human relation concept emerged for the first time in Industrial organizations, which give birth to neo-classical theories.
